September 19, 2011
Meeting opened with the Lord’s prayer
1)Roll Call: Present were Father Francis, Kendra Arch, Patricia Biebel, Special guest- Angie Cina, Dan Kotek, Dave Matheys, Dennis Olson, Marlene Norman, Julie Steiner and Don Tully. Absent were Karen Diehl, Jim Gillen, and Mike McMahon.
2)Review of minutes from meeting of 11 July, 2011: Approved.
3)Getting the spirit of the parish: “What are they saying out there”? “Lower bathroom in rectory needs attention”; ( This has been noted) “How long will church be closed in the day”? (Father Francis reports that it will now be open during the hours that the secretary is present); “There is a tree branch going into the parking lot that presents a hazard. ( This will be addressed. If there are Lilac shrubs that are an issue they can be given attention also.)
4)Reports:
a) Parish Clubs—Travel Club: Angie Cina reports that Sandy Kuehn will announce when there is
an activity.
Book Club: The books of the future months to be read are posted in the
Atrium.Father Francis said that he will try to attend when
time permits.
Zarephath Club: Marlene Norman has resigned from leadership. At the present
time a replacement hasn’t been found.
Bible Club: Lila Cina and Cathy Lund are looking into materials for the
group.
b)Religious Education Program:Dennis Olson states that Registration for classes will begin this
Wednesday and Sunday the 25th before each Mass.
c)PCCW Report: Pat Biebel reports that the sign up list is out for the fall dinner. Karen Diehl
will chair the event; multiple discussions were held at recent meeting; a
volunteer has come forward to do the Grief cards for the parish;Quilt raffle
tickets will not be sent in the mail secondary to a new law; a Parish Nurse hasn’t
been found to fill the current vacancy; the Blood drive was successful.
d)Joseph Club: Don Tully reports that Club recently arranged for roof repair for a widow; that
E-bay sale cleared $185.00; a Rummage sale is being considered; and that a
Parish breakfast will be held October 3oth.
Mr. Tully has volunteered to present info about the “ new Mass”.Father
Francis
suggests that it be done with in the Parish clubs .Pat Biebel suggests that
all
members of the parish be invited to attend a Joseph Club meeting to
obtain the new information.
e) Finance Council;- --- Capital campaign funds =$40,155.66
---- 2011 Diocesan Annual Appeal----Total paid=$37,377.00. This is a
shortfall
Of $8,529.00, which had to be made up with parish funds.
----Parish Endowment Trust fund:$67,864.36
f)Social Concerns Committee:
i) Fortney Hotel Ministry: Don Tully was appointed by Father Francis to head this ministry.
It has been determined, after consulting with the other churches
participating in the Ministry that the amount of food needed for
the Ministry could be cut in half secondary to the amount being
left in the refrigerator after each distribution. It is O.K. to bring
milk.Mr. Tully reports that new volunteers are needed to transport
food for the 5 PM Mass group.
ii) Pax Christi: will meet November 2nd.
iii) Community Garden: still could use some harvest help.
g) JOURNEY: starting shortly, Ms. Anderson will be stepping down from the group leadership.
h) PATHWAYS: Julie Larson is leader. Group will be meeting October 2nd,2011. Hunger walk
date hasn’t been set yet.
5) Old Business:
a)Parish Improvements: A sample of the wood being used for the pew repairs was presented.
The new garage has been completed.
The rectory landscaping is still to be done.
b) Other: It was suggested that children in parish could bring food to the Altar at Masses
for increased spiritual participation; A discussion was held about improvements needed in Mass server routines.
6) New Business:
a) Other:-- New Cantor’s are expecting to be reimbursed. The question arose, ”if they get
paid should there be expectations made of them?” Pro’s and con’s were discussed
extensively.
--Children’s Liturgy of The Word will not be run during summer months.They
will resume when Religious Education Classes starts in the fall.
--Don Tully was congratulated on being accepted into the Deacon Program.
--Father Francis reports that a new method of reporting expenses is being
required.
7) Next meeting: November 15, 2011 @ 5 PM.
