I’m sure your eyes have lighted up. What the heck is that? Well, I can’t find the English word to express my sentiments on what happened last week when we celebrated our Fall Turkey Dinner. So, for a job well done I greet you all in my mother tongue Ayekoo – well done and how exquisitely you executed the job too.
I enjoyed the sense of solidarity and cooperation. In the kitchen everything seemed to come together like a clock works. The wholesome, sweet, tasty turkey and the skill displayed by the carvers. The coleslaw – the veggie crew. The ladies attentive to the gravy production, making sure they did not miss out on any ingredient. Of course there were the potato kings who made sure to teach me how to boil the water right, when to add salt and butter to the boiling water and pour, mix and stir the potatoes right in the boiling water.
As for those with a sweet tooth, I just wonder how many of us were spoiled on the delicious apple, pumpkin, etc., pies.
But it was the dedication of the young people waiting tables that struck me. Young folks, thanks and as long as you keep doing this, the tradition goes on forever.
A lot of thinking and planning went into this but all of us as a parish came together to pull this off. Thank you all for being there for our parish.
Father Cook and Father Gorman, former pastors of our parish, were here to grace us with their presence and enjoy the evening with us. How wonderful!
I saw some of my former parishioners from St. Joseph Ridge, St. Peter’s in Middle Ridge and St. Mary’s in Coon Valley. It was a little reunion for me too as I got to chat, hug and visit with them.
I was quite edified by the patience of all our diners who waited calmly and gently queued for their turn to be served. Come again next year and know that we appreciate you and love your company. Bring your friends with you next year. Congratulations to those who won the raffle drawing.
And all too soon October is over, the month of the Holy Rosary. Let us get together on Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. for praise and adoration as we thank the Lord for all favors received.
